It’s Winter, Do YouTube?

Last month I wrote about the negative effects of prolonged sitting and the importance of N.E.A.T, the movement throughout the day that isn’t intended as exercise. Once you have N.E.A.T in place, then you can add exercise, but with short cold days, it’s hard to get motivated to leave the house for exercise. YouTube makes home exercising super easy. Whether you have 5 minutes or 50, you can find a workout buddy with the click of a YouTube search, no matter what your exercise level is. Here are a few of our favorites:

15 minute yoga morning wakeup

5 minute arms (beginners can skip the weights)

5 minute lower body

10 minute Pilates (for beginners)

20 minute pilates (intermediate)

Yoga Stretch

Best High Intensity Interval Training Workouts on YouTube

Here’s a story of the power of N.E.A.T. Hubby started setting an alarm each hour to remind him to step away from the desk and take a few minutes to move. We have a rebounder, so each hour he jumps for 5 minutes and drinks an 8 ounce glass of water. In that short amount of time spent throughout the day, he has noticed an improved mood, he feels better, and he’s even sleeping better. Do you have 5 minutes to spare? You don’t have to have a rebounder, simply get up and move – it could change your life! Now he’s ready for the next step, adding regular exercise.
